How to use this calculator
Sales tax and trade-ins
Many US states tax the price after your trade-in is deducted, which is how this calculator treats it. A few states tax the full purchase price, so check your state's rule if the number needs to be exact.
Watch the term, not the payment
Stretching a car loan to 72 or 84 months makes the monthly number look comfortable while adding thousands in interest — and it keeps you owing more than the car is worth for longer.

Should I put more down?
A larger down payment reduces the amount financed, which lowers both the monthly payment and total interest. Try increasing the down payment field and watch the total interest line change.
Does this include insurance, registration or maintenance?
No. Those are real running costs but they aren't part of the loan. Budget for them separately alongside the payment shown here.
